Hurry up and wait - Irma Recovery
Things are slowly getting back to normal but much of the process is extremely slow. We have a new RV but getting in down here and finding a place to set it up has had several delays so far.
On a sad note, Lady Catherine of Lady Catherine Charters has passed and will be greatly missed. She lost a long battle with cancer and passed quietly in the night.
The Keys are trying to get ready for this years Fantasy Fest which will be a challenge for the local homeless. Many have been staying in local hotels but will have to vacate in order to house tourists. That means more couch surfing for your local servers so tip accordingly.
If you are a rental boat regular most of the companies seem to have survived well. Captain Pips across the marina from where we are couch surfing has a new office trailer and most of their services are back in action. Most of the Charter Boats are back but there are a few that will take a bit longer to repair.
Fishing of course is fantastic for anyone able to find the time. Offshore is especially good with plenty of gaffer dolphin hitting the docks.
Many local wrecks will be difficult to find but there are new ones thanks to the storm. So if you are planning a wreck trip expect to do a bit more exploring than normal.
Booking wise, November and December are filling up faster than I expected. In addition to fishing, this year will have a bit more entertainment with construction and destruction crews. It is all part of living in the Keys. Come on down.
Marathon in the Florida Keys should be your next fishing vacation destination. Join us for charter fishing, fishing guide trips or our fishing 101 so you can fish on your own with better success.
Tight lines,
Capt. Dallas
